According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the magnitude-4.6 tremor hit at 7:01 a.m. local time, with its epicenter roughly 27 kilometers north of Caraballeda, a coastal city on Venezuela’s Caribbean shore.
Dwindling Survival Odds As Critical Rescue Window Passes
Five days on, the likelihood of rescuing trapped survivors continues to fade. The international rescue community universally recognizes the first 48 to 72 hours after a natural disaster as the golden survival window for buried victims.
Though this critical timeframe has long expired, more than 2,600 international rescuers equipped with search-and-rescue dogs and specialized detection devices remain deployed across the disaster zone, racing against time to comb through rubble for any remaining survivors.
